MAXINE’S ROOM DESIGNED BY SLIFER DESIGNS

December 27, 2005 –  Slifer Designs, known nationally for designing comfortable, timeless and beautiful resort residential interiors, recently completed The Maxine Miller Room, a hospice room for the Vail Valley Medical Center and the terminally ill of the Vail Valley community.

The challenge for Slifer Designs was to create a comfortable and attractive space in an existing hospital room and accompanying bathroom, which would serve as the Valley’s first official “hospice” room.

Beth Slifer, owner and President of Slifer Designs, chose Director of Hospitality, Donna Figg and Intern Designer, Tara Klaers, to lead the first-ever project for the company and the Valley.  “Our design goal for Maxine’s Room is the same as our philosophy for all of our jobs,” said Figg.  “Whether it is a hotel room, private residence or hospice room, our approach is to make the design as beautiful and comfortable as possible.  We know we’ve done our job well when our clients are happy.”

Maxine’s Room end result is a beautiful room with many green touches (Maxine’s favorite color), built-in walnut cabinetry, and a bathroom with tumbled stone tile in neutral, soothing colors and a patterned design.

“The most rewarding part of this project for me was working closely with Maxine’s friends, Barbie Allen and Darlene Daugherty, who are so passionate about the creation of Maxine’s Room,” said Klaers.

“It’s like we lit a match and they made a fire,” said Darlene Daughtery of Figg and Klaers dedication to the project. “It snowballed into something wonderful – one hand reached out and touched another. No one said “no”.  Donna and Tara were so eager to support this project, we know it touched their hearts. So much of their time and creativity went into this and they made it happen. They understood what we wanted and needed and listened to our input. They had fresh ideas which put a kick into the design and took it to a new level. They were amazing,” continued Daugherty.

As a result of strong industry contacts, Figg and Klaers assembled a team that donated goods, time and services, which made this entire project possible.  Most of the partners are local and include:  Décor by Design for coverlets and shams, Tailored Interiors for drapery panels, Greg Burnett of Point West for drapery and wood blind installation, CMT painting and the Paint Bucket, Hughes Supply -  Moen & Kohler for the bathroom fixtures, Thul Electronics for the cd/dvd and tape player, receiver, wireless headset and discounted television, DCA, Discount Cabinet and Appliances for the mini-fridge, Animal Crackers (out of Denver) for the mirror, Bergamo Fabrics (out of Denver) for the draperies and bedding, Glant Textiles Corp. (out of Denver) for recliner fabric, More and Giles (out of Virginia) for the leather for the chairs.

In addition to all of Figg and Klaers’ time being donated, Slifer Designs also donated a lamp, clock and artwork.

Figg is also leading a Slifer Designs team to create all of the interiors for the Cancer Caring House of the Shaw Cancer Center.
