NEW DISCOVERIES IN NEW YORK

A few weeks ago I had the (exhausting) pleasure of attending the twice-yearly New York International Gift Fair. I say “exhausting” because we browsed over 2,800 exhibits by companies showcasing the very best lines across the home, lifestyle, and gift spectrum. But what a pleasure! We saw fabulous items from old favorites and were introduced to many new products and companies as well. At one point, I thought we might need to buy snorkels due to the torrential downpours in NYC, but we managed to stay afloat and find some great things that will be coming soon to Slifer Designs!

My two favorite finds of the show were Waylande Gregory Studios and Two Worlds Arts. I've been waiting to look at Waylande Gregory for the past six months and we finally saw the line in person! Waylande Gregory was a renowned art deco ceramic sculptor. He passed away in 1971 but his great nephew has taken his designs and created this line so that his work can live on. Pattern and color are everywhere: art deco animals, architectural and organic patterns, gold or silver accents. Very fun, sophisticated pieces that you will absolutely love! Here’s a sampling of available collections:

My other favorite find was Two Worlds Arts. The company offers a full complement of custom capabilities, including decorative hand painting and murals, furnishings, antique reproduction, restoration, woodcarving, verre églomisé, lighting and accessories. I discovered that they will custom match just about anything.  Have a pattern that you want painted on a lamp shade, metal tray, cocktail table? They can do it. It’s so exciting to find a resource like this! Here’s a peek at what they can do:

I won’t overwhelm you with all of the exquisite new pieces we’ve ordered for our retail stores in Edwards, CO and Denver, CO, but here’s a taste of what might be available soon. Stop in and see us!
