SLIFER DESIGNS LENDS A HELPING HAND IN JACK’S
PLACE
EDWARDS,
CO. -- March 7, 2007 – When Beth Slifer was initially
approached by the Shaw Outreach Team over a year ago, it was clear
that this project would make our community a better place and that
Slifer Designs wanted to be involved.
Two years
later, with Jack’s Place open, the Shaw Outreach Team and their partners
have accomplished the lofty goal of creating a home away from home for those
in need of lodging when receiving their cancer treatments.
The Slifer
Designs design team, comprised of Donna Figg, director of hospitality, Angela
Ogle, designer and Tara Klaers, senior project coordinator, worked closely
with the Shaw Outreach Team to bring their vision to fruition. The interior
space features a Lobby, 12 Guest Rooms, a Gathering Room, Caretaker’s
Unit, Library, Green Room, Community Room, Multi-Purpose Room, Yoga Space and
Meditation Room. The spaces reflect a Colorado Farmhouse look, chosen
to appeal to make the visitor feel more relaxed and at home.
Almost all
of the products and furnishings chosen were either donated or supplied at a
reduced cost. “It is amazing how many people and vendors were so
generous,” said Tara Klaers, senior project coordinator who was the vendor
liaison. Angela Ogle completed the fixed finishes, drawings and construction
administration and Beth Slifer waived the fees that would normally be incurred.
The Slifer Designs distribution team volunteered to coordinate receiving, storage
and delivery of the hundreds of donated items, including case goods from the
Lodge at Vail and the Park Hyatt in Beaver Creek.
“The
interiors are a wow!” said Suzy Donahue, president of the Shaw Outreach
Team. “Everyone went the extra mile. The rooms have
tremendous warmth and a genuine homey feel, while at the same time being practical,” continued
Donohue. Shaw Outreach Team Vice President and Secretary Susan
Morrill also worked on the design team for Jack’s Place.
Bright red
wainscot adorns the living room walls providing a cozy feeling despite the
airy high ceiling. Other highlights include sleeper sofas in each Guest
Room, Caesar Stone countertops, retro yellow-banded vanity sconces, upholstered
chaise lounges in the Meditation Room, and painted accent furniture throughout. In
addition, several of the finishes chosen for the project are eco-friendly to
provide the patients with a non-toxic environment, including American Clay
and water-based “green” faux finishes.
Other recent
pro bono projects that Slifer Designs has worked on are the Maxine Miller Room
in the Vail Valley Medical Center and Donovan Pavilion. For more information,
