The scavo technique was introduced in the early 1950’s by glass artisans on the island of Murano, Italy. A mixture of several powders, the content of which is a highly guarded secret, is fused on the surface of the glass at a temperature of 800 degrees Celsius to achieve the crusty, aged appearance.
