Designing an Eclectic Retreat

There’s no place like home for the holidays, and who wouldn’t want to come home to the Four Seasons Vail—a penthouse with sweeping views of Vail Mountain. A spacious escape high above the skiers and revelers, close enough to be part of the action, but far enough to be apart from madness.

This 5-bedroom, 5-bath penthouse is designed with a modern feel with rich jewel colors and touches of gold and fur. Jewel tones add spice to any space, and as Designer Kellye O’Kelly explains, “We wanted to add rich colors that felt sophisticated and some fun unexpected touches that you wouldn’t typically find in mountain design.”
Bold pops of color with brass pieces warm the space.

There are many beautiful aspects of this space, but one in particular that just might appeal to buyers, and those of us with commitment issues: It’s offered as a rental unit until someone decides to make it their own. The current owner decided to give buyers a chance to use the space before purchasing—and after coming home to this, who would want to leave?

This project took less than three months to complete. The client wanted something different than a rustic mountain interior but that would still appeal to a variety of clients. The main spaces are jade green with touches of gold and rust to coordinate with the existing fixed finishes.

Kellye works on incorporating touches of brass into the great room.

A mis-hung picture is distracting. We pay attention to the details so you can pay attention to your family.

The upholstery has simple lines but it’s still comfortable and inviting. The accent pieces are a mix of traditional and mid-century modern to keep with an eclectic feel to the unit.

The furniture and lighting are accented by touches of antique brass to add a rich sophisticated feel.

The rugs for the dining and living room are from our local rug store, The Scarab.

Frankly, who wouldn’t love coming home to a modern, eclectic and stylish home steps from one of the world’s most renowned ski mountains? Your home is a reflection of you—and this one would reflect very well on you!

Kellye takes a break from creating the space you can call home.
